You may ask, “What are the funds going to be used for?” The Battleship recently celebrated her 66tth birthday and is a National Historic Landmark in need of preservation work. Upper level storm damage that could not be quickly addressed in the aftermath of Katrina due to more pressing Park devastation on the ground has now created areas high above the ship’s Main Deck that are fast becoming expensive preservation projects. Repairs will be in excess of $2 million.
